In ways you may not think possible, red light therapy can promote your health on a very fundamental level. The light intervenes deeply, down to the cell level. That explains why the positive health effects are widespread. For example, the light has a good influence on the eyes, the brain and on an unfavorable blood sugar level, which is a well-known pathogen.
Disease is a later stage in a longer-term process. When someone is ill, they show symptoms, but before they are there, many things go wrong. Those who then start digging for causes soon come to the very core phenomenon of the power plants of our cells, the mitochondria. They have to be in top condition and unfortunately all too often are not.
Our mitochondria decrease in quality and quantity as we age. This does not remain without consequences and you can see its effects well

in the blood sugar level and interestingly also in two energy guzzlers, namely our eyes and our brain. By looking at these seemingly very different topics, we learn a lot not only about problems, but also about solutions, in the form of red light.

Energy guzzlers: eyes and brain
Let's start with the eyes. Like brain cells, they need a lot of energy. That's not a problem for a long time, but eventually as you get older your eyes go backwards. They get less of what you want (energy/ATP) and more of what you don't want (ROS/reactive oxygen species/reactive oxygen species/ oxidants). That is a problem because per cell the eyes, more then whatever part of your body, slurp energy: the cells in the retina that capture the light with which we can see are, in general, full of mitochondria. They have to work hard, wear out accordingly and therefore age relatively quickly. Would it be possible to provide the aging eyes with energy and slow down the aging process a bit?
The answer this question will be answered in 2021 by the British doctor and professor Glen Jeffery and is positive: yes, the eyes can be energized. Then you get what you want: more ATP, less ROS and lower ignition values. How to get this done? It can be done with red light therapy. By using red light, the visual decline was partially reversed in the group of 34 to 70-year-old people examined.
In 2024, Professor Jeffery is back again, with new research, published in the Journal of Biophotonics. That shows again the power of red light. Health journalist Pim Christiaans writes extensively about it in a article which also shows the result of the study. This time the subject is not the eyes, but the blood sugar. Thanks to the commitment of red light there is a reduction in blood sugar peak of 27.7%. Peaks and drops in the blood sugar level are unfavorable for our health and if you can level it, by more than a quarter, that can be called valuable. The effect in the studied group of people was observed by Jeffery within an hour and a half and lasted as much as for days to. The 27 percent were so striking that Jeffery conducted the research for sure repeated, with again the same results.
Communication in the body
During Jeffery's research, a small part of the body was illuminated with red light, but because the mitochondria in the body communicate with each other, the news spread and the energy factories elsewhere also started to do their best. Red light creates more energy production with measurable effects in the eyes, blood sugar levels and, Jeffery adds, the metabolism, the ignition values and even the brain. That is good news for everyone and especially for the slightly older fellow, who can use some extras.
Jeffery he is particularly enthusiastic about the effects of light on the brain: ‘with age, the amount of ATP in the brain decreases, as does the functioning of the mitochondria."Not so good, because just like the eyes, the brain needs a lot of energy. This becomes clear in the scientific journal Neurotherapeutics where it will be in 2023 explain that a single brain cell in the outer layer of the brain, at rest, every second 4.700.000.000 energymolecules burned. That's 4.7 billion ATP molecules, per second, without the brain cell being in action.

Major consequences
Brain cells need a lot of energy. The necessary energy molecules are produced in the body by mitochondria. They become fed by glucose and oxygen. The supply this is important, as mitochondria of sufficient quality and quantity. What if this is only met to a limited extent? Then the consequences can be significant, up to dementia. This disruptive disorder is diagnosed in more than forty percent of 95-year-olds and also in lower age categories the disease makes victims in not inconsiderable numbers, increasingly also. Add to this the purely neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson and Huntington.
Huntington's disease is a genetic brain disorder that show see that neurodegeneration can occur whenonder plaques, but with failing mitochondria as a cause. At dementia is often thought of as plaques when it comes to causes. The fact is that plaques do not always have symptoms predict and that plaque-reducing therapies sometimes disappointset. At the same time, often even before plaque formation occurs, mitochondrial problems are detected, i.e. energy deficits in the cells.
And what about cancer? Do you ask the progressive American professor Thomas Seyfried, then he Points you to the mitochondria. That's where it misgate, he says. Previously imagine he, like most experts, that cancer was a genetic disorder. He now calls it a dogma and is it him clear that with healthy mitochondria cancer does not occur. As for him misplacing also others where cancer is concerned the focus of genes on mitochondria and on methods to make and keep them healthy and powerful.
Powerful cells by red light
In addition to a healthy lifestyle can mitochondria be turned on by red light to make more energy. The aforementioned Professor Jeffery would like to see that more people red light use, where he hopes that the light will become available in nursing homes, also for cardiac patients, although that is a story in itself.
Neither sick nor weak people need powerful mitochondria and thus powerful cells that can then do their job as well as possible. Sometimes they can end up in the sun, which is an outright recommendation. At the same time, that entails skin aging, there is not always enough sunlight, we are sometimes dressed too much or it is too hot to stay in it. For all the times when you can't build on the sun there is red-light therapy.
Every day I use a Sunsbest 6000 panel that sends the healing light frequencies at me with which Jeffery does his research. It never gets used to-every time it is great to experience such a huge amount of light. It feels wonderful and at the same time there is the knowledge that you provide yourself with energy on a very crisp level.
